Pilandros, an artist's collective based outside Guatemala City, was founded in 1989 to create clean-burning candles that are good for the environment. In doing so, the family-owned company creates new jobs for the highly skilled artisans who found themselves unemployed, thanks to Guatemala's economic downturn!!
Pilandros' artisans are divided into three groups: design, manufacturing, and information systems. The design team continuously creates new designs and supervises each step of the candle manufacturing process, from the selection of decoration materials to mixing and blending the colors and fragrances. The production team overlooks supervises the production process, as each artisan may be working on 50 different candle styles at any given time. The administrative and sales team helps the group reach its highest potential and keeps the operation running smoothly.
