PO - Pontare
Ecuador

Pontare was founded to create jobs that promote rainforest conservation and to provide an economic alternative to the logging and non-sustainable farming practices that further degrade the country’s unique terrain.  To achieve this goal, Pontare employs 23 artisans to carve jewelry and ornaments from Tagua Nut, a renewable resource that’s often referred to as “vegetable ivory” for its smooth texture and cream color. Tagua Nut, which comes from the Tagua Nut Palm tree, is available year-round in Ecuador and can be harvested without any detriment to the rainforest.

"Dancing in The Moonlight" The Islamic calendar is a lunar one, and the crescent is a symbol of the Muslim religion, and, throughout the centuries, the cross, the crescent , and David's star have fought each other and still do. The moon is seen as a symbol of romance as well as a symbol of evil. (Iris Cummings)

Our Pendants are handmade in Ecuador, carved from tagua nuts, a renewable rain forest seed known asvegetable ivory for its likeness to real animal ivory, but with animal and habitat-friendly properties.

  • Pendant measures 1 1/2'' tall x 1 1/8'' wide x 5/8'' thick
  • Similar to animal ivory, this tagua pin will gently antique or darken over time
