Handmade by the female artisans at Madina Handicrafts Community, a network of homebased workshops in and around Kabul where women work together to cut, shape, sand, polish and assemble contempory jewelry designs using recycled glass, fluorite, lapis, carnelian, quartz, turquoise and other semi-precious stones.

Madina artisans have been working with a foreign fashion designer for the past two years to learn how to craft jewelry for western markets. They work together to cut, shape, sand, polish and assemble stylish designs. The stones they use come from their nearby provinces with the most mines and semi-precious stones, such as Badakhshan. The wires and clasps sometimes come from Pakistan and India. Depending on their order, Madina artisans can often craft 7,000 pieces a month.
