PO - Pontare
Ecuador

Pontare was founded to create jobs that promote rainforest conservation and to provide an economic alternative to the logging and non-sustainable farming practices that further degrade the country’s unique terrain.  To achieve this goal, Pontare employs 23 artisans to carve jewelry and ornaments from Tagua Nut, a renewable resource that’s often referred to as “vegetable ivory” for its smooth texture and cream color. Tagua Nut, which comes from the Tagua Nut Palm tree, is available year-round in Ecuador and can be harvested without any detriment to the rainforest.

This aerial photograph was taken by Maria Reiche, one of the first archaeologists to study the lines, in 1953.
The Nazca Lines /'næzk?/ are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert[citation needed] in southern Peru. They were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 80 km (50 mi) between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumanaabout 400 km south of Lima. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D.[1] The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, and lizards. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than 70 are zoomorphicdesigns of animals such as birds, fish, llamas, jaguars, and monkeys, or human figures. Other designs include phytomorphic shapes such as trees and flowers. (For more information) Click Here
