Glo-Anse Handcrafts
Philippines

The weavers in the remote island of Bohol, Phillipines are stripping the leaves of pandan (Pandamus).

Only the mature leaves are cut leaving the young ones for the next harvest. The leaves are woven mostly by old folks or women who are less educated.

This woven materials are delivered to Glo-Anse's factory for dyeing and cutting. After Pandan woven Pandan leaves are dyed and cut to the shapes needed in making photo frame, boxes, etc.,  they are delivered to jobout workers in their houses. Whole families are working together to finish the job in a required timetable; for which they are paid per piece. The artisans are people living in urban areas who would not otherwise be able to find job and instead work at home.

After producing an item, the finished piece is returned to the factory for finishing and quality control.

Glo-anse currently provides work to 4 people in their factory, but to 30 or more families that work from their home.
