Alternativa is a non-profit organization based in El Salvador. The organization plays an advisory role to the various artisans connected with it. The main objectives of Alternativa is to guide and train the artisans in various areas of product development, design, skill levels, production, marketing and quality. Alternativa was created in October 2007 in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Aid to Artisans (ATA), under the USAID funded Program for Artisan Development in El Salvador.

Currently, Alternativa has about 65 artisan groups who are active members of the agency and are engaged in creating beautiful handmade products.

The Alternativa Association product mix has a wide variety of personal accessories and functional products. Artisans use diverse materials and traditional techniques to make items such baskets, glass, textiles and waist looms. 

Alternativa Association works with many artisans and artisan workshops across El Salvador, offering innovative and quality products. The organization promotes these products through its store and also helps search for larger commercial opportunities in regional and international market and trade.
